Member for Whitsunday Amanda Camm MP congratulated Cheryl Raiteri on 50 years of service to Girl Guides at a meeting held at the Proserpine Guide Hut on March 18.

Ms Camm said Ms Raiteri was presented with a 50 years’ service badge and certificate and was acknowledged for having positively impacted the lives of many girls throughout her years of involvement.

“Cheryl has a passion for all that Girl Guides encompasses: adventures, challenges, leadership opportunities and giving back to your community,” she said.

“Cheryl has served her community for half a century, giving many girls the wonderful experience of Guiding that she enjoyed as a young lady.”

Ms Raiteri started her Girl Guides journey as a Brownie and finished in the Rangers category.

Ms Camm said Ms Raiteri was a terrific example of someone who had personally gained so much from giving so generously of her time and knowledge.

“She has attended many camps, helped with fundraising efforts, held many positions within the organisation and developed many friendships over her years of service,” she said.

“Congratulations Cheryl on reaching this milestone and for your contribution to your community.” 

Others acknowledged for their service to the various Girl Guides units in the region were:

• Donna Houley, West Mackay district manager, who received a 30 years’ service badge and certificate.

• Cheryl McBride, Proserpine district unit leader, who received a 20 years’ service badge and wattle badge.

• Sarah Strohfeldt, Proserpine district unit helper, who received a 5 years’ service badge.

• Kimberly Wales, Northern Beaches district unit leader, who received a 5 years’ service badge.

• Angela Stevens, Bowen district manager, who received a badge and certificate.
