Mackay-Whitsundays Miss Out in Queensland Budget

The Member for Whitsunday has called out Palaszczuk Labor Government’s budget which has failed to deliver much needed investment.

“There have been no new infrastructure projects for the region.

“It is disappointing to see the re-announcement of projects like the Mackay Ring Road and upgrades to the Bruce Highway that have already been committed by the Federal Government with the State’s co-contribution.

“The feasibility study for the Mackay-Bucasia Road upgrades is not due until 2023/24, despite the need for this to be bought forward immediately.

“With a budget commitment of satellite hospitals for South-East Queensland, we are still lacking in health services for regional Queensland.

“There has not be an exclusive investment in social or community housing for the region.

“While Whitsunday and Mackay Regional Councils will continue to benefit from the Works for Queensland program; this is not a big enough investment to support our councils in meeting population growth.

“The Labor Government have not delivered on election commitments they promised for health and road infrastructure projects.

“I will continue to hold the Government to account. The Mackay-Whitsundays contribute significantly to the State’s economy and this budget demonstrates a missed opportunity to invest in economic infrastructure to meet the needs of our region and its growing population.
