Prepare to be bowled over by club works

PROSERPINE Bowls Club is on a mission to modernise its clubhouse and is getting the ball rolling with more than $29,000 in grant funding.

The club received $29,220.16 under Round 114 of the Queensland Gambling Community Benefit Fund (GCBF) to improve safety at the clubhouse and provide inviting facilities for the broader community to enjoy.

Proserpine Bowls Club Inc secretary Heather Brown said funding would cover the replacement of power boards for safety reasons, as well as new LED lighting, comfortable leather-look club chairs, new coffee tables, a large-screen TV, a home theatre system and 10 new sets of coloured bowls.

“We want to provide a comfortable and attractive clubhouse and up-to-date equipment to attract more members and increase our viability,” Mrs Brown said.

“The new bowls sets, coupled with a sound system which can broadcast across the green, will expand our capability of giving people a good bowling experience, whether that be for barefoot bowls or other social occasions.

“When schools come to visit we will now be able to give each student their own set of bowls instead of students having to share one set between two.”

Amanda Camm MP, Member for Whitsunday, said the Proserpine Bowls Club was one of seven not-for-profit organisations in the Whitsunday electorate to receive funding under GCBF Round 114.

“The Proserpine Bowls Club has a very proactive membership and is making great progress in freshening up the clubhouse and ensuring the club’s facilities are inviting for the whole community,” Ms Camm said

“I’m pleased to see the club’s goals and visions being brought to life through the support of the GCBF.”

Ms Camm said the GCBF provided grants of up to $35,000 to Queensland not-for-profit community groups to enhance their capacity to provide services, leisure activities and economic opportunities for their local communities.

Also sharing in a total of more than $162,000 in funding for the Whitsunday electorate under GCBF Round 114 are:

·      Fauna Rescue Whitsundays Association Inc – $35,000 to construct a multi-purpose animal facility.

·      Proserpine Golf Club Inc – $35,000 to install a solar system.

·      Seaforth Men’s Shed Association Inc – $34,946 to upgrade facility.

·      The Queensland Country Women’s Association Proserpine Branch – $20,600 to upgrade hall roof.

·      Soroptimist International of Mackay Inc – $5150 to host event.

·      Proserpine Historical Museum Society Inc – $2953.80 to purchase IT equipment.

“I congratulate all recipients and look forward to seeing the outcomes of the various projects,” Ms Camm said.

She said the next round of GCBF would be a ‘super’ round, offering grants of up to $100,000 to each not-for-profit group.
