Shute Harbour Road at Hamilton Plains is a lifeline for Whitsunday residents and tourists connecting to vital services such as the airport, hospital and our secondary school, and it is essential economic infrastructure for the tourism and business sector.
Federal funding for the project has been available since 2019 and yet the community is still waiting to see construction begin.
Tenders have been closed since March 2023. It is time for no more delays. We need to fix Hamilton Plains now!
Upgrading Hamilton Plains needs to be the Queensland Government’s priority. We, as a region, contribute greatly to the state’s revenue and branding as an international tourism destination.
Regional Queensland and our Whitsunday community deserve better.
We call on the Queensland Government to fix Hamilton Plains now. No more delays or excuses – let’s get the job done.
