Funding Falls Short for Domestic Violence Support Services

I am calling on the Palaszczuk Labor Government to provide grants to Mackay and Whitsunday domestic violence support service providers.

The latest announcement by the Palaszczuk Labor Government to provide $2.5 million in funding to respond to the challenges of COVID-19 has fallen short for local organisations.

Funding applications from domestic violence service providers in the Mackay-Whitsunday region were rejected by the Queensland Government’s Minister for the Prevention of Domestic and Family Violence.

This will severely limit the capacity of local providers to provide support services to those in need and cause devasting effects on our community.

I call on the Member for Mackay and the Palaszczuk Labor Government to fund this critical need and ensure an appropriate level of funding is provided to meet the demands of COVID-19.
