Youth Justice Legislation Does Not Go Far Enough

The Member for Whitsunday has highlighted the failures of the Palaszczuk Labor Government’s quick fix for youth crime.

“I have received correspondence from several constituents across my electorate, particularly in the Northern Beaches of Mackay, about youth crime.” Ms Camm said.

“Last week in Parliament, the Palaszczuk Labor Government rejected the LNP’s calls to introduce breach of bail laws. Instead, they introduced youth justice legislation that fails to go far enough to protect our community.”

Local constituent, Kylee, who lives in the Northern Beaches, highlighted the dire situation many residents are facing.

“Youth crime in Northern Beaches and North Queensland is at crisis levels. We need to find ways to punish these kids and deter them from reoffending.” she said.

“We also need to look at correct rehabilitation programs.

“The Palaszczuk Labor Government is doing nothing about it. Police are left with no power. The community has had enough,” added Kylee.
